Ryan Clarke sensei started his martial arts training as a teenager. In college he was introduced to aikido as an elective and after college started training in the Yoshinkan Aikido style in 2003. Eventually he earned the rank of sandan (3rd degree black belt) and holds an internationally certified instructors license with grading responsibility to shodan (black belt).
Clarke sensei also studied Japanese swordsmanship from multiple teachers and styles. From this experience, he created a "new" sword school based on the fusion of traditional kenjutsu and aikido.
During his 20 plus years training in aikido, Clarke sensei has twice been able to travel to Japan. In 2015, he was fortunate to attend a seminar celebrating the 100th posthumous birthday of Gozo Shioda Kancho in Japan with aikidoka from around the world. This experience is a highlight for Clarke sensei and is a reason the Shinkawakan Dojo is affiliated with the Shioda International Aikido Federation (SIAF).
It is a great honor, privilege, and responsibility to continue the aikido of Gozo Shioda sensei!
